Hello before i switched isps my xbox and pc worked fine i was able to use xbox live and stream music off my computer from xbox. my computer uses a wireless usb adapter and i have my xbox connected from my computer ethernet port. So now im getting a limited or no connectivity from my local area connection. i was also getting one from my wireless internet when i switched internet but i reseted internet protocol with command prompt. But my LAN is still stuck. it looks like its not renewing the ISP it has an isp of 169.254 and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 no default gate way or dns. I can manually add the ip addresses from my wireless ips and the same with my xbox and it will say its connected But then my xbox will say cant connect with a static ip address. i dnt know what that means but im guessing im doing it wrong? Can somone help me out lol im lost . Thanks for any help :)

Are you behind a router? It sounds like you are, but if you have no default gateway showing in ipconfig that may be an issue. If you are behind a router could you please specify what make and model of router you have. Most router gateway addresses are something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and you should connect to these in a browser to make sure you are receiving feedback from the active router. If your connection has limited or no connectivity, this could represent an issue with the connection, but not limited to your ISP's signal strength. There are a number of possible issues. If you could copy and paste what IPConfig says, I'd be happy to try and help.

Start > Run > Type "cmd" Press Enter
Type "ipconfig/all" Press Enter
Copy and paste this information that is displayed.

You will have to reconfigure your xbox network settings as ip address and dns addresses have changed.

Well my id addresses for my wireless network are
IP Address: 192.168.0.13
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DHCP Server: 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers: 209.55.5.10, 209.55.5.11
and for my LAN is
IP Address: 169.254.190.179
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway:
DNS Server:
it leaves those blank.. i tried manually entering the ip addresses and the limited or no connectivity goes away and i manually enter on the xbox and it tells me it cant configure network hardware with a static IP. i think i remember at my old house i had internet sharing enabled on my wireless network now when i try to enable it a message pops up saying its already enabled in a lan connection? I checked my lan connection settings and its not checked? so im guessing it must have been in an older lan connection? my current lan setup is Local area connection 7 so how do i get rid of previous settings?

If you are not getting internet from your modem then you need to call your internet provider to make sure your internet is active. Can you get internet if you hook up straight to the modem and bypass the router?

ya i get internet from my wireless usb. my internet works fine on my computer. im trying to get my xbox to hook up to my pc with ethernet. i think i found out my problem. I cant enable internet sharing from my wireless network so its not sharing it to my lan on my computer. i dont have an ethernet cable long enough to hook it to my xbox :(

If you try to share your wireless internet from your computer to your xbox, you will be lagging big time. Your best bet is to go buy a cable or have someone make you one, they are really cheap to make them.

your LAN has an appipa address (169.254.190.179)change it

set your LAN nic to use theese settings
192.168.0.14
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers: 209.55.5.10, 209.55.5.11

the xbox to
192.168.0.15
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers: 209.55.5.10, 209.55.5.11

assuming you only have the laptop/pc/360 connecting to the internet.

if you have more devices .15 and .14 may be in use and need changed.
