Movie Maker Problem

I have windows 7. I record videos with fraps and then edit them in movie maker. I had done this before on the same computer but now when i try to add some gameplay from SWTOR the video will not play. The playback screen is black and only the sound plays. However on the story board i can clearly see the video footage. What is the problem?

Sometimes in order to play movies you need video codecs in order to see the video. You said you hear the audio but can't see the video.

Try downloading the divx codecs here.

http://www.divx.com/

Click on the blue free download box.

You must have the correct video codec in order to see the video. For example some AVI video types such as MPEG4 needs XVID codec otherwise without it you will not see the video.

While on some OTHER video files you might see the picture but hear no sound. That means you need the right AUDIO codec. Most of them require AC3.

If you have installed and uninstalled bunch of different codecs then your registry is messed up completely. If you install too many different codecs which integrate deeply into Windows then in some cases Windows Movie Maker will not work properly and may crash very often.

The best and easiest way for you would be to simply convert the video file which Movie Maker does not recognize into the format which Movie Maker recognizes using any valid software for that such as Eusing Free Video Converter and then load that converted movie file into Movie Maker and do with it what ever you want ;)

Cheers!

My cat Amee got crazy by the way xD!
