i recently just put together a new build.
i didnt buy a high end graphic card (sapphire radeon hd 4650 ultimate edition) as i dont game but watch blurays etc on it.
the thing is i tested a bluray on both a ps3 and my pc and the picture honestly looks sharper and crisper on the ps3.
not much better but better all the same.
why is this? would a more expensive graphics card give a better picture.
im using a 32" hdtv

I have an htpc with a 128 bit 4650 and its plenty even for 1080p upconverting. How is it connected to the tv? HDMI?

Also, what player are you using? I'd download ffdshow here and follow the guide. Then, I'd install mediaportal and streamedmp from here. Also, they say EVR video rendering is better but I find VMR9 with gaussian quad filtering to be better.

yeah im using hdmi.ive been fiddling with colour, contrast setting etc but stilll dosent look as good as it should.
for bluray im using power dvd 9 and for playing movie files vlc.
gonna grab ffdshow now but ive no clue what EVR video or VMR9 with gaussian quad filtering are
