Moving Dell guts into new case

Hi All,

My problem is the extreme heat!

My Dell case 435MT wasn't built for my new graphic card upgrade (GTX470), the temperatures get extremely hot, sometimes over 110c degrees! But idle at 70-80c at almost full fan speed! Its clear that I need a new case, and would like to purchase:

1) COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000

or

2) Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel

But, I don't know if Dell mobo can be moved to another case, I heard that Dell is using proprietry parts, that are specific do Dell, and some people had to get new motherboard and stuff in order to get a new case.

This makes things a lot more difficult than I thought, but I hope somebody here have done Dell case swap before and could help me out.

Thank you,

/a

The usb and power button connections are all on the same cable in dell computers now. You would have to mod the case connections in order to figure out where to connect them on the dell motherboard. I would really consider buying a new motherboard that will support your current hardware. The only problem you'll have is that you'll need a new OS to go on the new motherboard.

I done a dell swap before but i did only take the CPU (Intel P4 2.8ghz prescott) and Ram (1 gb kingston) then i got with the case a 550 w cheap psu and i had to buy a new motherboard, heatsink fan, Dvd Drive and also a video card. (as dell only had terrible onboard at the time don't know if times have changed) Really if you are looking to do this it could be better to purchase a whole new machine and put it together as you could get a better machine than the one you have purchased from dell.

LOL, if you are still using the orginal PSU you definitely need to upgrade. Having said that, I have moved several dells without a new mobo etc, it should work fine. Take some pics of the mobo connectors, and post full specs (including PSU).
