Moving OS

I'm having a lot of troubles with one of my computers, and want to install a new OS. If I take the hard drive from the "broken" computer, and install a new copy of Mac OS X Leopard onto, can I simply put that hard drive back into the original computer, or will it have some link to the computer's motherboard. Or is there another, better, way to accomplish this?

I don't know how OS X install varies from Windows, but it may be the same.

I'd insert your OS X disk, boot to it, and then delete the current partition on that hard drive and re-install leopard.

Unfortunately, the computer will not boot from a DVD drive, and therefore will not accept the installation DVD. This being said, I'm trying to use another computer to install the OS directly to the HDD, and then move the HDD back to the original computer.
