Moving "Windows Image Backup" to another HD

Hi everyone. I just copied over my Windows Image Backup files from my nearly full SSD to my spacious mechanical HD. So now I have it on both HDs. My question is can I delete the one on my SSD? Will Windows recognize the copied version on the other HD when it automatically backs up files?

Hope this is clear. If not I will elaborate further. Thanks.

You will most likely have to change the directory to where the backup is stored. Besides, it doesn't make much sense to have the backup on the same drive as the original data. You would have lost all your data if the SSD had died on you.

I'm not sure what you are saying.

Just for reference I use AOMEI Backuper for backing up and cloning. I would never clone or backup to a drive that also runs in the computer. If the PSU goes out or you get a lightning strike that data is poof, gone.

This makes perfect sense and I thought this was possible but how exactly do you change the directory to where it is stored?

I don't use the program but there should be an option for settings that will let you pick a location for storage of the backup.

But really, just copying and pasting individual files you want to keep to an external drive is safer and easier. Many people have had issues restoring files from the backup using that software.

Yes, it should do.

If you are unsure the best thing is just to create a new backup on the drive you want it on.

I didn't think Windows allowed you to save image backups to C:\ anyway?

Ok Thanks for the help johnb35! And I have 3 HDs spirit. One SSD to boot windows (C). Another SSD for downloading things quickly too (the one Im trying to move stuff off). And a 3rd traditional HD for storing all my junk much like purpose of an attic.
