Mp3 vs. Mpeg4?

I've heard that mp3 is better than mpeg4 for listening to music because the sound quality is better. I have also heard there is no difference except that mpeg4 can be used for other files like photos and videos.

So, what's really the difference? I would like to know because if there is a difference, I'm not buying music from iTunes anymore..

Cheers,
Holly :)

you just stated the difference.mpg4 is for ipods that play videos.they play music videos.
google is your friend.mine too.we go way back.
in waiting for this shitty response you could have searched for it already.so what are you waiting for?go go go!

I can't totally say yes to that, but I do beleive it is. I know there are a few different MPEG4 compressors. DiVX, Quicktime, and a couple others I can't quite remember all are considered MPEG4 if I remember correctly.

Right, you cant say yes to it cuz well it's not neccesarily always the concept. MPEG4, classically, is a non-MPEG related (as in, has nothing to do with MPEG1/MPEG2) video encoding format and I would imagine as of late, since evolved to an audio spec as well.

Then there is the MP4 file extension corresponding to 3GP

Yah, thanks for the advice, Vince. Don't have to be a dick about it.

Thanks for the rest of your responses :) I just get confused with the mp3, mp4, m4a, mpeg4...bleh.
