MS 2007 Excell Spreadsheet - Read only problem

For some reason any spreadsheet I look at and wish to edit is now coming up with "Read Only" in Compatability mode.

I need to work on them but I cannot. Not sure how that happened but I cannot figure how to fix it and save ot in normal mode.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Were these spreadsheets originally saved by you on the current computer? Right click on each spreadsheet and check properties to see if read only is checked. If so, uncheck it.

Thanks, I have done this but the Read Only attribute is not ticked.

When opening the file in Windows Explorer or through Excel, is the preview pane turned on? If so, turn it off.

Sorry to sound so vane but where can I find the preview pane.

The preview pane appears on this area and shows a preview of what you're opening.
