MS Office 2000 loads on one machine and not another.

I have a laptop running xp home and a desktop running xp pro. When I insert the cd to install the program on the laptop the windows installer comes right up and prompts me to start the install. When I do the same steps with the desktop, the cd just sits there. I tried to just view the files and I can't even do that. I have installed other software on the desktop and it went into auto start just. Any ideas why this MS Office is giving me fits. On a side note, I just did a clean install on the destop and because of a bunch of card reader my cd/dvd drive is drive H. I don't know if that would make a difference but as I said, I have loaded other programs. Thank you. Frank

I know it's rather simple, but if the only problem is it's not auto-loading, you could try going to "my computer" then double clicking your cd drive to open it up. I'm sure it's something more difficult than that though...

Yes, thanks anyways. Already tried that. As a matter of fact when I go to my computer it won't let me view the files at all. On the laptop, no problem viewing the files thru my computer.

Oh I had the exact problem 2 weeks ago, I've been on Microsoft Help Guide and it found like 30 000 reasonable explanations...man forget it.
1. I would go to control panel, system, then hardware, device manager, and find your DVD/CD-ROM, so copy all the name of it ( p.ex.: TSST Corps...)
and paste in google, and ask for the driver upgrade.
2.Btw, newer versions of Windows Professional have installed all the recent updates of devices and drivers, so why if possible, don't you install the same windows you have on laptop-to your desktop computer?

Yes, all my other disks so far have worked just fine. I did a clean install on this machine but it originally was manufactured with Vista. Would that have anything to do with it?

No that shouldn't be a problem. I suggest you install the same version that you have on laptop to your desktop computer, if you are able; you will not lose any files as far as I know.
But in the other hand...I don't know why would that happen.
