I recently upgraded to XP Pro and have just about finished installing the programs I use. My office suite is Office 97 and I have a lot of docs on my computer and on disk in .doc format. I went to create a new document the other day and it won't open Word, just keeps referring me back to Microsoft where it tells me that it is no longer a viable program and I must upgrade. Anyone else with this problem? Don

Did word 97 ever work after you upgraded to xp pro?
If you don't want to upgrade Word, you could try using OpenOffice. It is a very popular and well-liked free alternative to Microsoft Office and is probably better than your version of Office from '97.
You can go to www.openoffice.org

I stand to be corrected here but I do not think that Office 97 is compatible with XP Pro. Maybe a little research at the MS site will reveal more info on this.

Upon checking it appears that Office 97 is comtatible with 97. I would check to see if there are any updates to Office 97 available. These may solve your problem.

Try running it in Compatibility Mode.

Right click on the Word (97) icon and select "Properties". Click the "Compatibility" tab on top. Click the check box "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows 95" and click "Apply" and then "OK".
