MSI K7N2 Dual Channel Mode

Ok So I killed my MSI KT4 Ultra ( I flashed the BIOS ) , and I got a MSI K7N2 I wanted to keep my Athlon XP 2000+ ( and save some money ) .

This Motherboard the K7N2 can run in dual channel mode , I have a stick of DDR 2700 512MB 333MHz . Do I have to get another stick of memory with those specs to run in dual mode or can it be of a another brand , can I mix DDR333 with DDR400 and still get dual mode.


Also is anyone using this board the MSI K7N2 from what I have seen it's a good chipset.

With only an Atholon XP2000 you wouldn't want to spend much on memory as long it was the same type hopefully same brand. You would put a faster DDR400 dimm in the first slot with the current PC2700 in the appropiate B1 slot to enable the dual channel mode. The one thing to remember more then brand however is the type. If the dimm you have now is single sided(row of chips on one side only) that will not work with a dual sided dimm installed. The majority of value ram types are single sided with the older style memory.

The best memory to buy would be DDR333 to be sure of compatibility if it was another brand. The ideal move is to buy a matched pair of DDR333s for the board there. Otherwise a DDR400 dimm is forced to backclock itself to run along with the memory you now have. The old board is probably still salvagable since you most likely had a bad flash of the bios. Download another copy of an update and prepare another floppy? Just a thought.
 
I will try to get another stick of PC2700 333 Mhz , but I am having other problems with the K7N2 , Only one USB port will work , I have no Front USB ports and I unpluged the D - Bracket and still only one port works.


Also I will like to try to reflash the Old Board but I cant get into the BIOS It wont even POST any help with that ?

Clearing the cmos only takes seconds not hours there. After removing the battery from the holder you have to remember to move the correct jumper over one pin on the block and then return to the default position. The cleared bios should by default search for a floppy first. But you will need to copy the updated bios version to the drive first along with having the flash tool on the prepared floppy made for this.
