MSI NvidiaGTX560 ti or MSI Radeon6950?

personally i think the GTX 560ti should do the trick, combined with the CPU i see in your sig, it should work perfectly and get about 50FPS. correct me if im wrong though :)

The 6950 is faster, but only by a few FPS. But the 560ti has better drivers and runs cooler. So whatever one you choose will get you good framerates.

I would personally go for the 6950. Compared to the 560Ti, the 6950 is the better card. Also, the 6950 can be unlocked to a 6970, making it even more powerful.

If you would rather go for the 560Ti, try getting the 448 core. I think the 560Ti 448 core is about as powerful as the 6950 or nearly as powerful as it. Both of these are high end cards and will play nearly every game on ultra setting, if not mid-high settings. Don't worry about the temperature of the cards, as they already come with fans on them and as long as you have a good case with good airflow and ventilation then your card should stay at a stable temperature.

Keep in mind if you want to run BF3 on the highest settings, you're gonna need atleast 1.5GB of VRAM.

As for selection I would personally go with the 560ti 2GB. But as everyone has said before they will be about the same in the end.

Good Luck!

for optimal performance; AMD gfx work best on an AMD system. Only use nVidia if you plan on matching it with an Intel system.
That's how I look at it

an amd card performs just as good or better with a 2500k as it does with as amd quad core, that whole amd-amd and nvidia-intel is stupid. and correcting Acura7ee's point, some cards can be unlocked to a 6970, but there's a very small selection of cards to choose from as it has to be on the reference design, and also even those aren't guarenteed, only some of them will actually unlock/flash

And don't forget that AMD cards take a hit during battlefield 3 so you'll have to turn off some visual features to get good framerates.

I don't understand why you wouldn't want to use an AMD technology with another. It's all compatible but I would rather keep it in the family. ATI offers better performance in my opinion regardless... any other way is stupid to me.

if you had the money why wouldn't you mix them to get a 960t and a 580 (untill 7970 that is) instead of being stuck with a 2500k and 570 (which is faster than a 6970)

AMD/Nvidia here, and the reason why is simple.

I was on Phenom II + 5770
Sold the 5770, had a GTX 260
Sold the 260, got a 9800GT (temporary)
got a 560 Ti

the reason for each of those - money. I could have got a 6950 instead of a 560 Ti and had AMD/AMD, but why, when the 560 is cheaper, at stock nearly identical performance (only a couple fps behind) but will overclock further. I am getting a better card for less, even though it is Nvidia.

It is the same as saying to someone "why would you drink water out of that empty coke bottle? You know that this water bottle here is specifically designed for water so will make the water better?"

My experience actually answers the question too, take the 560 Ti rather than the 6950 :)

I can't comprehend why both of you bring up the cards i use, that's irrelevant to this discussion.
Like you said Aastii, money is the exact reason it's that way. But I will not support any other technology other than that of the one I love, I'm sorry
If your going to compare nVidia to Radeon then you need to bring up both of their latest technologies, not older cards. Straight up, hands down, the end

Just because of what you can afford in no way determines that's what you should have.

you lost me man, i'm not sure where you're going anymore. either card will do perfectly well regardless or your other specs, how bout we just leave it at that.

Thank you all for the input. Yes it seems if I can snag either for cheaper 2nd hand I'll gladly take either cards. I'm seeing alot being sold out there for much cheaper used than new lately.

Of course if the card I get doesn't give me my dream results, I'll lower settings.

At this point playability > waiting/saving/perfection. :)

Read what I posted again, specifically the last two full paragraphs:

Comparing a 6950 (latest gen card) and a 560 Ti (Latest gen card) I could have got either, HOWEVER, I didn't say i will go AMD because I have an AMD CPU, I knew that video card performance and manufacturer is independent of CPU performance and manufacturer, so went for the better card - the 560 Ti.

A few years back when I was donning an Intel C2D, I had an ATI 3870, the then latest gen, again for the reason of price/performance, even though by your logic I should have gone Intel/Nvidia, based on some unfounded claim that it will perform better than Intel/ATI would have

I'll be receiving my own 560 Ti this week. I finally got fed up with recent driver issues... normally I don't have any, but I guess my luck had to run out. Plus the fact I can't set GPU scaling options properly (and 12.1 preview has not fixed it) and that Crysis has some stupid underscan/overscan issues with HDMI + AMD I had enough. Plus video cards are like food, got try all the best ones :D

I wouldn't suggest flashing a 6950 to a 6970, mainly because a 6970 uses 6+8 pin power connectors and a 6950 uses 6+6 pin power connectors, and if you try and flash a 6950 to 6970 speeds, it'll be unstable, mainly because the card itself isn't receiving enough power.

OT: I have a PowerColor HD6950, it runs great, runs all my games with 60+ FPS easily. But I don't have BF3 so can't really tell you what frames I'm getting with my card.
