MSI Z77a G43 Compatibility?

Hi guys,

ok so this may be a little late now but i have ordered my new parts (in sig)

However, looking on the site for MSI it says that although the board does support the chip i need to download a file something.v23 the earlier something.v is something.v20.

Does this mean my new board needs a bios update before it will boot with my chip? If so is the only route getting a older cpu (sandy bridge?)
 
Yeah, it need bios 7758v23 for the i3 3220. Hard to tell, boards will act different. Some will boot up and run fine with a unknown processor. Some will boot and be unstable and some wont boot at all. Luck of the draw if you will need a supported processor with the bios already on it to flash. If you just bought the board it might be fine, the bios it needed came out in April of 2012, any boards bought now should already had a bios from April from last year.
 
Yeah iv just bought it brand new from so fingers crossed ill be all good.

EDIT: EVerything is fine, mobo came with a recent bios update (not latest but enough to get me up and running)

Loving my new parts :D Much quicker than my old stuff.
