MSN Photo Album Virus Help

Hello all.

A friend of mine is currently speaking to me on Teamspeak and he's just told me that he has the MSN Photo Album virus that he got by downloading a .zip file from his friend thinking they were legit normal photos, yet of course it was a virus. Anyone ran into this before or have any knowledge on how to remove this? He's running Avast!, all up to date yet it doesn't seem able to remove it or even detect it.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

nah, never run or heard of that kind of virus but then again, if avast can't get the job done, AVIRA can

note : being the avira fan that i am, you should try other methods of removing threats on pc, google how
to remove the threat on google it can help out a lot

Oh believe me I've gone through that many google search page results and found absolutely none of them useful. In the end he back dated (system restored) to a previous point before he had the virus and that seems to have worked. That would initially get rid of the virus wouldn't it?

do you think it did ?

tell him to boot into safe mode and then run a scan
i think tht shud detect the virus
if not, install avira and then try removing or just restore the system to an earlier point

I have no idea as a.) I've never used System Restore because I've never had to, and .b) I haven't got his computer in front of me to work on / browse around and check to see if it has or not.

He seems to say that it's no longer sending out links / files to his contacts on MSN so I'm assuming it's gone. I couldn't tell really without being there. Will suggest that he boots up into safe mode and scans now.
