I sent an attachment to myself in my hotmail account and when I saw the MSN thingee before I went into my hotmail inbox the attachment was there below my friend's altered photo. can everyone see this private attachment.

More to the point can other people who are m MSN friends see who else I am MSN friends with?

Are you sure you didn't send it to him or something? Or set it as your display picture or..?

In short no. But your "live" profile automatically allows this via your profile, you can turn it off in your privacy settings though.
