i thought that i had gotten rid of that pesky MSN virus a LOOOOOONG time ago but it appears to be back :(

a friend told me that they received a message from me saying something like...

"livelifexplore.com has a new update, check it out"
livelifexplore.com is an old site i used to have.

and another thing that is weird is every once in awhile i get a message from messenger saying that i "have been signed out of msn messenger because i signed in from another location"

does this sound familiar to anyone?
how can i check or get rid of this annoying virus?

ps, using win7 64 bit and AVAST PRO antivirus
 
Start by running Malwarebytes and hijackthis.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here, here, here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
 
just finished the malwarebytes scan and it found ONE thing.

hopefully that was it. i'll keep a close eye on it and get back if this stupid msn stuff continues.

make sure you also use spybot and teatimer and keep them updated one a week, that will help you keep pests out of your PC, at least it will lessen the chances of you getting hit, hope your issue is solved
 
so now i've done my usual routine which is run the following...

avast
superantispyware
malwarebytes
spybot
ccleaner

msn virus is the ONLY one i have ever gotten and that was cause i was stupid and clicked a bad link ONCE :(
thanks for all the advice and i'll ask around if any of my friends keep getting those retarded msn links popups from me.
