I have a friend on MSN who when I log on is there but then quickly vanishes. Could be not wanting to talk to me and hiding his name from me when he doesnt want to talk for some weard reason? Not that I could care, he talks to me when he wants to. But can you quicky change your name to appear you are logged out to a certain person? And how do you do this?

yes you can-

you just right click over the little green msn logo on your taskbar at the bottom then select status "appear offline"

I can find the block then unblock button but not the appear offline when i right click on the persons green icon.

Do people often click block to a person they dont temporarily want to speak to? And when they click block- they can see if that person is online but that person cant see if they are online, right?

Sometimes this happens to me........it is a delay in the status, once you sign in they go offline. Also i can talk to someone online and they instantly change offline, like at 4 in the morning when i know they are not there. Just a glitch I suppose.

If you know the person well you should know if they are avoiding you, but why not just block you.

I think before you can sign in you can used invisible and also in the setting ether you choose your name or e-mail id to appear in your account.

It comes with AdWares always. It may slow up your computer just a bit, but you will end up haveing shortcuts on your desktop, on start menu and on your browser! To download more and more emoticons...and they are mostly trial.!

You can probably do something like that with messenger Plus! which is a free add-on. You can choose whether you want to install shortcuts or not ;)

To be "offline" but still be connected, in the toolbar on the bottom right of your screen, right click the green messenger icon>status>Appear offline
