multi-instant messaging software

Okay, here's a riddle for the computer savvy people on here..

What is the best multi-instant messaging software that will document all the conversations I have, is easy to use, not choppy, and won't mess up my buddy lists when I load back into the normal versions of AIM, Yahoo, etc?

Riddle me that.

There are quite a few out there... I've tried various ones, but I still return to Trillian 3.1. Trillian Astra was released not too long ago, but I still much prefer 3.1

Now if you're using a Mac, I use Adium there. It is by far my favorite client, but is only available for OS X.

I support Trillian too. It's very good.

I had used one of the Trillians and I found that when I loaded back into the normal version of the messenger, it had deleted or moved buddies from certain sub-lists. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a limit of buddies that you can have on that program (I have upwards of 2000 with them all put together)?
