Well, i decided to do one more build for somebody. Namely an entertainment/multimedia pc.

he needs atleast a 200GB hdd and a 19" moniter.
he WANTS a remote controll like my PC has and likes widescreen.

so this is what i have come up with for his budget of $750.

so he is getting:

3200+ AMD (can overclock pretty easily)
1gb pc2 5300
250gb hdd
X800GTO (will handle every game he plays)
400w psu (+12v 29A)
19" widescreen with 8ms response time
cheap-o MOBO that will handle everything perfectly
ati remote wonder (AWESOME little toy)

i'll be supplying windows OS, extra things that i have laying around like a CD-RW and 20GB hdd then he wants some MS office things that i can get pretty cheap.

Brrrrrrrr... ECS and Rosewill give me the chills. At least the Coomax supply has the 20+4 connector on it. Some lower powered supplies are still in the 20pin days there. You could go a little higher to a 430w, 450w, or 480w to have more power available especially when gaming or multitasking.

well, thanks for ur input, and i have decided to go with the HiPRO psu....still 400w, but it is 400w Continuous power, which most others are peek power.

i have also decided to shave off some money by going with a 3400+ ECS mobo combo package, the only bad thing is that it is a socket 939......

so this is what i have:

CPU/MOBO: http://promotions.newegg.com/AMD/AMD_motherboard/index.html
GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814102688R

DVD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16827106014
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817174022

most of the other stuff is minor and i don't really need help with

also, i have in my spare parts bin: 512mb pc3200 memory, 2x10gb hdd, 1x20gb hdd and a cd burner that i could throw into this pc......idk i might just throw them onto this computer for a few bucks more to get rid of them.

ECS and Biostar are on the low end list for boards. Newegg just wants to clear the stock that doesn't sell there. They also had an Asus AM2 board that came with 2gb of Viking DDR2667. But you will notice the price climbs on good named boards fast.

There's not that much to complain about with the video or drive there. But that memory looks a little too generic. Viewsonic or BenQ work here for moniors. The Lite-On will work while the supply is still a lost in limbo make there. You buy cheap and you'll get cheeee peee there.

Gee 3 out of 3 are not what you need there. Aspire doesn't get any favorable reviews from anyone sorry to break the news there. The CoolMax brand was alright. But you simply choose an underpowered model. If you want a good stable supply you are going to have to a little more for it. Look in the $75-$100 price range for the 480w-500w models by CoolMax, Enermax, ThermalTake, Antec, Silverstone, and AeroCool.

i know it isn't a thermaltake or enermax, but this one is a very good PSU from what i've heard and seen of the specs, so i decided i'm going with this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817174023

also he told me if it will help me with the parts list that just go ahead with the 17", and he might buy another 17" moniter in the future to get 2 screens which would work for him.

so now after like the 4th revision, this is what i got:

You may want to reconsider that supply after reviewing Section 02 at http://www.computerforum.com/10764-psu-101-a.html

You also can make a smaller sized list by simply listing "For psu, brand, price, and link for brand". That allows people to review the specifications for each when advising and not have to scroll the entire page to look over each item.

The memory is a little generic sounding. At least the Viking brand had a recognized name. I'll give you $.10 for the Rosewill stuff there. Artic Cooling, Zalman, ThermalTake, and a few others will far outdo the Rosewill cpu cooler. You are moving down from a mid to mini tower case?

there is nothing wrong with ECS motherboards tbh... they are cheap, and reliable.. they just dont have much features (wich makes them cheap) and they dont overclock well. but i never had a ECS board die on me so far

You could call Abit and DFI reliable boards and those lack a good number of things too. The main idea is based on getting into a multimedia build that will meet the performance needs. Video playback will often pull on resources and load up a cpu faster then many games.
