Multiple Display issues.

So, I'm not a very techy person, and I apologize for my ignorance.
I'm running a Radeon HD 7700 (ancient I know, I apologize)
with a DVi to VGA adapter, with a Y-splitter to a 27" and a 20" monitor (AOC and Dell respectively)
resolution settings is not detecting a second monitor.

I'm sure I either dont have the right hardware connections, or I just have no idea what I'm doing.
Please throw me some advice. Thanks.

You need to connect the second monitor to a second output on the card. Can't use a y adapter or you'll just be sending the same signal to both monitors.

So how would I do that?
Assuming there was no second output.

Literally once single DVI output. Would I be able to connect a second?

I also have an IOgear 2 port video splitter, but that would probably do the same stuff right?

You would need a different video card with more outputs such dvi and vga or hdmi, even 2 dvi ports would work.
