multiplier fluctuations

i downloaded CPUz and speedfan this morning and was monitoring my temps and whatnot when i noticed that my multiplier skips between 6 and 9 every few seconds, changing my core speed from 1200mhz to 1800mhz... i have made no attemps to overclock or try any changes on my system speeds. i cant figure out what is causing the change. also speedfan reports that "AUX" is operating at 110 degrees celcius (which i dont think is possible because the system would either crash or melt the chip) all of my fans are running normally... i went to check inside the case for a cause and my southbridge heatsink is a little hot to the touch after a few seconds of keeping my finger on it. is this normal for a southbridge heatsink? i am running the system in my sig btw. my system is stable and everything runs fine but i couldnt help but be a little worried about the 120C temperature for the "aux" reading

Speedfan has a few false readings like AUX that go to practicly nothing

Im thinking speedstep may be enabled, check bios..?

AUX I think is your power supply. I'm guessing Stepspeed in enabled?

this actually would make sense... im running everything in my sig on an antec 350 watt psu so its probably running at its max capacity... which would explain the temps. as for speedstep, if it is on by default then yes it is on, i havent tweaked my bios at all with the exception of disabling A:

speedstep automatically changes the clock speed based on what the software reads, but would it remain at a constant 9x multiplier under a heavy load if i were to view it in CPUz? (9x = my 1.8 ghz speed)

PC Probe II , software that came with my mobo reports that chassis 2 and chassis 3 are operating at 0rpm... so once again i checked the case and all fans are operating normally. this has me thinking maybe there is a fan or some form of heat dissipation i was unaware of that i failed to connect whenever i installed my PC. my PSU, video card, CPU, and case all have fans that are working fine. is there a connection that must be made to the southbridge? that would explain why it is hot to the touch after a few seconds
