music starting to skip

i use iTunes on an HP laptop with 4gb ram. my music is starting to skip, as in music that hasn't skipped before is skipping now. not all of my music is doing it, but slowly more do over time. it's happened on the same computer, both vista and now windows 7.

is it an itunes problem? or computer problem?

Have you tried playing the music in another media player? You can then narrow it down further. Try playing it in Windows Media Player and report back with your findings.
