Music won't stop playing!

Hi there.

I am using a relatively new XP system. There is techno-style music that keeps playing the background, repeating over and over to the point that it appears in my dreams. I can only eliminate it if I mute the sound on the computer in general or if I disable the audio device. How can I find the source of the music? It's not coming from a media player...every program is closed. And when I open a music file, it will play with the existing techno music.

This problem is only a few days old but has already driven me up the wall.

Do I have a virus of some sort?

Thanks a lot in advance.

press ctrl+alt+delete and go to processes and see if there is anything that looks unordinary or says like music player or something of that sort.

Maybe you are just crazy and theres really no music. If its a virus thats one cool virus.

does it continue after you have rebooted the computer?? if so at what point does it start playing again, but like fuzz says maybe your problem lies with the shrink :)

You guys are too silly haha

Anyway, thanks for the help.

I downloaded an attachment from an email from my friend, and the music was part of the attachment. Even after I closed the email and attatchment, the music continued. Also, I forgot to mention that even when I restart my computer, the music continues. It starts after 2-3 minutes upon logging into XP

So strange...

I did ctr+alt+del and ended the altpayV2.exe proccess, and the music immediately stopped. I restarted the PC, but the altpayV2.exe was there, and sure enough, the music accompanied.

I've been using search engines with the keyword "altpayV2" and I've found sufficient information to conclude that it is in fact a virus or some "Movieland" spyware junk. Now I need to get rid of it.

Thanks. I did a system search of files with name "altpayV2" and found some already quarantined by my spyware program. There was actually a C:/program files/altpayv2 directory and a c:/program files/movieland directory, both of which I removed. The problem is now fixed. I use spybot, but I'll download adaware just to be safe.

Thanks again!

sounds like one of the cooler yet annoying viruses/adware out there lol....comp starts up and u got techno music playing. haha
