My 2nd e8500, problems already?

I received my second e8500 today (first was sent back). I'm having trouble getting temperature readings from this new one.

Idle: Core 1 is 8c, Core 2 is stuck on 25c.
Load: Core 1 is 29c, Core 2 is stuck on 25c.

The bios reads 21c and never changes. ASUS probe goes to 31c load.

I have reset CMOS, and re-seated the CPU twice.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply. I always use that program, however, the best program for measuring temps on the e8xxx CPU's is RealTemp. Yep, heat sink is applied correctly. This is probably my 100+ build. I've been doing it for more than 6 years.

Should I RMA this one as well? It is a better overclocker than the last one; I'm at 4.1 with 1.33v. Does it really matter that the temperature diodes are duff? I know on 1.46v on my last chip that the temps were 51c each core, full load.

Since you've had two of them, maybe its a bios or motherboard problem. have you tried flashing the bios?

The first one I had was just faulty performance wise, temps were fine. This one over clocks great and the performance is a lot better than the first one. Any way, I have flashed to the latest bios, no change. I asked a mate to pop over earlier and to bring his e8500 with him, worked like a charm, no problems with temps, and performance was the same as my current chip. There is obviously a problem with the temperature diodes. I am happy with the performance of this one, is it worth another RMA, or stick with it?

The temp sensors on a lot of the 45nm processors are known to show inaccurately in a lot of motherboards. Unfortunately there's not much that you can really do.

As long as you're not pushing the chip beyond max voltage of 1.3625v and you have adequate cooling you should be fine. My E8400 ran at 1.3625v on a stock cooler for a while and I never had a problem.

if you applied the heatsink correctly then i wouldn't worry too much about it. i like to brag about low temps when i can get them but who cares... you got a stable overclock and i personally have never had a processor deteriorate from heat over time. they're built to last.

i'd just keep it in there and keep overclocking! try for higher ram frequency or lower timings.. got mine down to 4-4-4-12 with a little extra voltage.. but i always want more!

Thanks for all of your comments. I can see what you all mean when you say keep it, but, I don't tend to keep my components more than 6-8 months. So when it comes to sell it I can't really advertise it as fully working, and at the end of the day, I paid for a 100% working part and I have not got that. I think that I'm going send this one back, the company I bought it from usually have a 3 day turn around so should have another one soon. You know what they say, 3rd time lucky.

Well, I received my 3rd e8500 yesterday, and I'm really pleased with it. Here is the result (24/7 clocks).
