My 7800GT's a bad overclocker

My BFG 7800 GT is a really bad overclocker. The core is OK, I got to around 490 Mhz, but my memory must have been a reall crappy batch because all I can get is 1150 Mhz without extreme artifacts. At 1200 Mhz it freezes on 2D aplications. Any tips or something? Alot of people have been getting around 490/1250. :mad:

Oh and I got 7627 in 3dmark05. Is that about right with everything else stock?

Well kinda obvious, get more bang for the buck. Try buying the NV Silencer 5 REV 3 that just came out, it's made for the 7800 GT(X)s. Good luck finding it though.
 
Ok.. well, it still freezes up in half life 2... where in the BIOS or program or whatever can I increase the voltage?
 
You have to dl nibitor 2.5 and theres a way to up the voltage on it. You change the voltage and save the bios file and then use nvflash to flash the bios on your card. The problem is, is that your taking a chance and you can potentially fry your card instantlly or it can malfunction over a period of time, or it just wont flash at all.

Another thing that will help is getting a better cooler. I recommend the zalman cooler thats in my sig.
 
lol why u want to overclock, i think u can play anything at highest setting with ur video card without overclocking it
 
Did you have to change anything other than clockspeed? What program did you use? Was that the professional version of 3dmark?
 
i used the coolbits hack which opend up the OC panel in the nvidia bit under display. I ran the optimal setting then slowly increased until i got up to 500/1200. It won't go any higher than 500mhz but some people can get up to 540mhz. Depends on your card i spose.
 
Maybe he meant 7608, thats close to what I got 490/1150.

I think I'm going to let it run stock memory untill I get some good RAM sinks or something, because whenever I overclock, I reduce the speed that it runs srtifact free.
 
i was reading a post, some guy clocked his 7800gt up to 520/1200 and got 8800 on 3d Mark 05, so i'm gonna close some programes downa nd run again.
