I have one of those things in the title and am having some issues with it. I got the thing and pluged it into the computer and there were already like 1GB of software on the drive so I did a quick format on it. When I did I chose 8100KB for allocation size. I transfered some files onto it and everything was fine but some times the drive will disapear from windows while still pluged in. If I try to get to one of those files after the drive has disapeared the computer blue screens. I am using Esata and unpluging and repluging does not help, only rebooting. When I reboot everthing is fine again for a short while. Is the drive garbage or is there somthing I can do?

I have a 500GB WD external HDD. When I plug it in via USB my computer makes the 'acquired' sound ( sound when a USB device is plugged in). Unfortunately my computer does not show the HDD in 'My Computer'. 'Device is working properly' appears in device manager...

My question is... Is there a a command that I can enter in 'run' that will force the external HDD to open?

Well, that cant be your HDD's problem, may be there is some issues with your USB connection. coz i have been using My Book Elite and never really faced any such problems
