He lives in Canada and i live in the states. He's now getting this comment when starting Skype. Any suggestions? I mentioned to him he may be infected and to wait.

Went to go on Skype last night. Opened it, logged in and it bounced me to a new page telling me that it is recommended to open a Microsoft account and run Skype through a Microsoft app. Every time I clicked on close and tried to go around it to open Skype it kept on bouncing me back to this page and refused to let me proceed. I'm wondering what you can tell me. I gave up. Did Microsoft buy Skype? Do I really have to do this in order to continue using Skype. Do you recommend that I proceed with going through Microsoft? Check it out and let me know please. Don't know if Canada is different than states.

Microsoft bought Skype forever ago. I don't know what error you're getting specifically, but just be sure you've installed Skype for Desktop (if you're using Windows 8). You should still be able to log in with your original Skype name and password.

ok thanks. i told him to sign up after work and he can ask his own questions. he's at work. But i never had it ask me to open a Microsoft account before and run through Microsoft app. If he cares then he should get back and post as needed.

and we have always skyped fine in the past. this isn't the first time. Used it for years the both of us.

Yeah, they just recently started shoving Microsoft accounts on everybody. I didn't know it was a requirement yet though. Are you sure there's no "other sign in" button or similar?

I dont know. i know he signed up and everything worked fine yesterday. Group calling tonight is a feature i like. just started that. gonna try a virtual dinner with my family next. Curious? how many can be on a group call. im thinking when i check it is 3 or ya can get something 10 people for a monthly fee. just curious.
