My cd / dvd burner will not burn, or be recognized as a burner. But will play disc's.

I can play cd's, watch movie DVD and play games with my DVD drive. But it has stopped working as a burner for some reason.

Media player keeps saying to connect a burner then restart the program, won't work in nero either.

Have tried a few things. Have changed conection from one SATA to the one next to it. Have uninstalled drivers and the primary IDE??? then re installed it, windows detects it but still the same. Have the latest firmware.

The burner is brand new, have not even burnt a DVD with it. Have burnt about 5-7 cd's though. Is about 5-6 months old, the whole computer is new.

It is a PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-212.

People have said to go into the properties menu of the burner and check that the recording tab is checked for burning etc. I do not have this tab come up. All I have is GENERAL AUTOPLAY HARDWARE SHARING.

It is really pi**ing me off.

Any ideas on what is going on and how I can fix it??

Cheers,

I would remove the device from the device manager, removing all the drivers. Reboot and see if windows reloads the drivers. Also go to the manufactures website and see if they have new drivers or firmware for it.

Things like this are usually simple in nature, but aggravating in general.

There is a new firmware revision for your drive dated Firmware Upgrade Ver. 1.22
New! (09/08/2007)

From the following link

Just make sure you select the right version.

To check what version firmware you have now you can go into the device manager and select your drive, click on propertys and look for it. If the revision is older than the one can download, then update and try burning again.

But I would suggest trying to reload the drivers and such first.

Got her working.

What I had to do was:

Go into the services.msc
Find the IMAP CD-Burning COM service and make the startup type disabled.

Then I dad to go into the registry and (forgot how to get there now, too many things to expand). But there is a CD/ thing there that has three options. Something like:
1 is cd only
2 is burning and
3 is disabled

Mine was on 3 disabled. So I had to change it to 2 burning.

Now when I right click on the dvd drive in my computer I get the recording tab, when before I never used to.

Sweet.
