This is the computer I have currently in my room and I think the video adapter is causing the BSOD because once an error poped up saying something about changing video adapter!

I need to get a cheap around 50 CAD Dollar new graphic card for this computer! From bestbuy.ca or futureshop.ca or ncix.com! My motherboard is a P4P800-E ASUS motherboard!

and my graphic card is a Radeon9600 Sapphire

I am not sure what graphic card will fit on this motherboard and what to get for around 50-70 Dollars!

Please help me out and thanks in advance!

It depends on what you want to do. Do you want to do a little bit of gaming or do you only use your computer for simple tasks as in Web surfing etc..?
If you're shopping for a video card, you need an AGP card or a PCI card. Also one that will support your OS. But you should answer my previous question above before we can choose a card for you.

I will only play games like CounterStrike Source and ill be surfing the web maybe some movies music and stuff and Im sure about the pci and agp card thing! and I have windows xp proffesional edition sp3 32bit I might switch to vista 32bit

What if your motherboard is defective and not the video card? You could be buying a new accelerated graphics port video card for a defective motherboard.

whats that is it a onboard videocard or something? I dunno it keeps getting BSOD's and this time none of them would pass the BSOD and I can't even open the computer now so yea

I think it would be best to buy a new processor, video card, RAM and motherboard. You may also need to buy a new case if your present case is original equipment manufacturer.

yea I have two other computers but this one is like my experimental one the one I play with and learn with I just need a new graphic card for now from ncix and would a core 2 dual processor work on this motherboard?

This Asus motherboard will not support a dual-core processor. The best processor you can get with this motherboard is a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition. A Pentium 4 Extreme Edition is not going to get you much more processing power. It is not worth upgrading the processor for this motherboard.

You need to do this systematically if you are going to find out at all what the problem is. All of these tests assume that everything else is stable and has been reliable.

Does it come up at all after POST. If you get a beep code the card may be faulty.

After POST try to go into safe mode. If it does then chances are the drivers have been corrupted. You may have to re-install the drivers.

If it doesn't then if you have a card (even an old one) test to see if you get safe mode from that.

By the same token you may be able to test the card by putting it in another platform and seeing if it comes up that way in safe mode.

If the card passes all these tests, chances are it is the drivers or some other software problem. Granted this doesn't solve everything as there may be a fault in the card or MB when under load, but until you get the card back up and stable at idle everything else is guessing.

nothing works even safe mode doesnt work it doesnt beep either and when I ever windows xp bar is loading the BSOD comes up page_fault or irql _equal _less or something like that never gets pass windows xp loading bar place!

Next time it happens you need to get the exact code on the BSOD. Here is some basic stuff on it from MS Support. One cannot always assume it is just a hardware problem. You need to dig a little deeper. IRQL error could be hardware related, but as you can see from the documentation that may only be one of the problems.

As for the PAGE_FAULT error there are some distinct software errors that cause this, depending on the additional codes that are given in the error message.

Without the additional codes it could be any of a dozen things.

irql _equal _less

This Stop error message usually occurs during installation when there was an attempt in kernel mode to touch pageable memory at too high a process internal request level (IRQL). Typically, this error occurs when a driver uses an incorrect memory address. Other possible causes of this error include an incompatible device driver, a general hardware problem, or incompatible software.

MS technet search PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Looks like this error has a number of causes
