So i have windows 7 7600 build, and it NEVER shuts Down! i got to start then shutdown but it always hangs... it says "shutting down" but never actually shuts down, what can be the casue of this? im thinking on going back to win xp 64 bit, but i need DX10!! any thoughts? thanks in advance!

Updated: My system Specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz
OCZ SLI 8192MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz
OCZ 700w GameXStream Power Supply
1x GTX 260

Yes it was a Fresh installation. running on 64bit. I mean when i had just installed it worked and shutdown just fine, but for about 6 days or so, it doesnt shutdown now, i dont know if it could be a application or what.. but ive installed alot in the past 6 days so i dont know specifically what could be causing it.

Your computer may not be compatible with windows 7. What computer do you have? Was this an upgrade or fresh install?

It has to be an application that is hanging possibly. open task manager before you click shutdown and see if there anything standing out.

but if it was an application wouldnt it NOT go to the "Shutting down now" screen, and just tell me if it was an application, casue i know when im shutting down my PC when i have tabs open and other stuff open, it would ask me if i would like to close that certain app before shutdown, or id lose any data.. but ill double check, i know there is 1 app that is always on, and that is my punkbuster app for my COD. but im thinking, it has to be something else.. if its not an application what do you think it could be?

ya... but i have NO IDEA which one it could be,like 10 games, and like 100 other applications man. ohh well ill have to check once i get home i guess.. thanks again for your response!

Zulu,

Did you download Windows 7 directly from Microsoft? If not, there have been reports of similar errors with other releases. Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for addtional support.

Like others have said. Its probably a application/program or driver. You click shut down and its like, Oh no your not!

there could also be the possibility of a bad install.

It happens to me once with vista. everything was find at first then my computer started acting all crazy. But since your using windows 7, it could be a different cause like the others have mentioned.

If you have time, try to reinstall the OS. Wipe the drive with all partitions (if more than one) if you don't have any data you want to keep.
