Ok so - new computer, all new components, etc

Step 1: Formatted HD and installed Windows XP Pro
Step 2: Installed drivers for GForce Video Card and chipset etc.
Step 3: Restart computer

....ok now when I go to restart all I get is a blank black screen and "no signal input" on the monitor?!! I have no idea what is causing this but I know the video card is fine. Before I rebooted and got he 'black screen' I was watching graphics demos and surfing the net. Basically, now when I start my computer I am not able to see anything on the monitor or do anything. How do I resolve an issue like this?!

Thanks all!

It sounds like the default vga drivers didn't copy to the drive along with the installation files there. The first thing to do is look over the installation disk to see if it is scratched up or covered with finger prints. Apparently you had a bad install and will have to reformat again.

When i reformat, I tend to install all but the GPU drivers. The basic drivers that come with Windows work well enough. Not perfect, but well enough. Then, I just download the drivers I want from the internets.

ummm....is your monter pluged into the vid card port or the mother board port?

The monitor would have had to been connected in order to install the video drivers. The problem with installing the wrong ones would be the lock of Windows upon rebooting. The driver removal tool will be the thing needed now.

Or he can go into safe mode, which doesnt use the installed vid card driver, and install the correct one :)

Booting in safe mode since the last known would be too soon to use is the way to get to the desktop. But the removal for either ATI or NVidia will still be needed to see the drivers totally removed from the system. The make and model card will tell right off which one is needed. If it's an ATI model card the catalyst remover will be needed. A manual startup of the system restore may also be too soon to roll back the driver there.

The system restore process can be started manually from the safe mode command prompt only or the recovery console. The driver removal tool would be used if the safe mode desktop is reached. The last option would be to delete the current new installation and install Windows a second time. The other two methods are simply time savers there.

thanks guys - fixed it! actually i didn't fix it - i came home from work, turned it on, and it magically worked fine. i played Doom 3 on it and it was AMAZING@!!
