My computer is steadily loosing space

After installing everything on my computer I was left with about 175gb of space on my main HDD partition. I have noticed that this is steadily declining...in fact today it was 170gb, but when I came home (right now infact) its down to 169gb.... what could cause this? Is there a default win program that saves things to my HDD, like a system restore or something ?

idk dude but i had the same thing happen to me, i had 15gbs, then went to 12, then to 4, but i was able to get it back up to 11 and it has stayed there for the past day and a half. what OS r u running?

You are likely have restore points (used by system restore) that are filling up part of your hard drive. I wouldn't worry about it unless the restore points fill up over 20 percent of your hard drive.

that was part of it for me (about 5gbs) and then i uninstalled a few things, did a restart and i was at 11 gbs, so i was happy enough. should be getting a 500gb for xmas

were the red circle is there should be a tab, click that. then find were it says delete restore points

System Protection, the feature that creates restore points, is on by default. Microsoft recommends that you keep System Protection turned on for all hard disks that contain important files so that you can use System Restore if you need to.

How do I turn System Restore on or off?

To turn System Restore on or off

Open your Control Panel.
Click on the System Icon

In the left pane, click System Protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To turn on System Protection for a hard disk, select the check box next to the disk, and then click OK.
