My computer keeps freezing

Hi,

can anyone help with my problem...

My computer keeps randomly freezing. When it does, I have no alternative but to manually turn it off. When I turn it on again for the first time, there is nothing on the screen. When I turn it on again for the second time, it does not get as far as the windows boot. When I turn it on again for the third time, it finally loads windows!!

My machine is a P4 1.7Ghz (about 5 years old). I have recently upgraded the graphics card (ATI Radeon 9700pro), the PSU (400W), adding a 5.1 sound card with surround sound speakers. I have Windows XP Home (service pack 2 with the latest updates).

As I say it freezes randomly, sometimes in the middle of a game or using iTunes or sometimes when I am doing things that dont require much processor power. I have also noticed that it doesnt playback video properly on the web and when I boot the machine I also often get a message saying there is no signal from the screen, so I am not sure if the problem is down the the machine, the screen, or both!

I am completely stumped as to what to do as I have spent a fair bit of money upgrading it and I dont want to have to go and buy a whole new machine!

Please help guys!

did your pc freeze before you put the new graphics card in or is it after you put the card in???
if it freezes after then its your Graphics Card also your monitor is connected to the card so I'm guessing its the card.
