Hi...I have a Sager 9860 Laptop and for the past couple days my laptop has been locking up. The screen will freeze and I cant even move the mouse. The only thing I can do is to turn off the computer by holding the power button. I tried formatting and reinstalling windows but I'm still recieving the same problem. It locks up even when I try to shut down..Does anyone know what could be the problem? Do you think it could be the harddrive or motherboard? I been trying to figure this out the whole weekend....soo frustrating..Thanks

check the processes before the computer locks up, if you have a bunch of stuff running that you dont need try ending those processes

could be a virus, try running some antivirus software to get rid of that stuff

i wouldnt jump to the conclusion that its a hardware problem unless you have something happening thats making you think its hardware, i.e. a noise or a vibration.......i would try software fixes first, they're cheaper :D

ok..I tried to format but I cannot finish the installation because it would lock up during setup and I have to keep on reseting...What should I do?

three most common causes of that would be ....

1. virus or bad sector
2. dirty power (do you have a UPS, or surge?)
3. bad hard drive

it could be your motherboard, but i doubt it......another more likely possiblity is your memory

I had this problem with an old DEC Pentium I box. Check your laptop for accumulated dirt, dust, fuzz, and other assorted crap that may impede airflow.
