when i put in my boot disk and get to an a:> prompt, i type in c: and press enter

normally this should lead me to the c: drive, but it says invalid drive specification

i am trying to format my comp again because there is some bad stuff on it, but i cant

i know how to format it from c:, and thats fdisk if i am correct

any ideas?

When you get the A:> prompt, as I'm assuming you're booting from a boot disk, just type fdisk and partition from there. Then use the format command after partitioning and rebooting.

Do you have an NTFS partition? W98 boot disks won't detect NTFS partitions. If so, either use fdisk to make a FAT32 partition, or boot from an XP CD.
