Hey, I was just removing a hard drive from my computer and my memory sticks were in the way so I had to take one of them out. I replaced it after I got the hdd out. Then I started up the computer and I see vertical lines running up and down the monitor and it makes it difficult to see the screen. I figured it was the graphics card which is a nvidia fx5200. I right clicked on the desktop and went to the settings and my graphics card wasn't showing it just said default monitor and that's it. So did I some how fry the video card when I removed the memory stick? I put in another video card from another computer and it works with another one, but my computer seems to overheat the cards no matter which one it is, it makes them hot to the touch. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

its not the video card its the monitor, if it was the videocard it would be going horizontal

hey, i downloaded pc wizard on that computer that f00ked and there are now many vertical red lines spaced apart about 10 mm apart. I checked the video card and it is detecting it there but the computer doesnt detect it when I check the properties when i right click on the desktop. I am in the middle of downloading all the windows updates because i installed a fresh copy of windows xp home. I am now downloading sp2. I seems very strange cause i downloaded the pc wizard but now it isn't there anymore after i restarted from downloading previous updates. the wizard doesnt give a specific temp for the video card but it does for the processor and mobo. it almost seems like some whacky virus or something but probably not. thanks

If you click the temp tab you should be able to scroll down and see a GPU temperature. If it isn't there then i guess it isn't being detected.. I can only assume that you card has died.

You can check that the resolution and refresh rate are correct, but i doubt it was a virus; I've never heard of one doing that..
