Alright, I looked at my other threads, and I don't really wanna use one of those to add on to. This thread is going to be for my many questions while I buy hardware and build my computer.

So far I've bought my processor (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66 GHz--216 w/tax)

My question right now is what video card shoud I get? I will be playing Sims 3 as some of you already know...so it has to be compatible.

Is The Sims 3 going to be the only game you play or do you plan to play others in the future too? If that's the case then you'll want to future proof yourself somewhat.
 
Do you have a budget in mind for the card? If you are only going to play Sims 3 then you will not need anything special (~100 Vid Card) but if you want a little more future proofing as well as the ability to run really any game out, the card Just a Noob recommended is very good (BFG GTX 260- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143155). They also just came down in price so it is a steal at only 180, but again it all comes down to what you will be using it for and your budget.
 
This gives you a composite score of multiple different conditions of most of the current graphics cards available. This one is for Q3 of '08, should have a new one coming out very soon (they put out a new chart about every 6 months or so...). You can then take this chart and compare it to what the prices are on Newegg to have an idea of what's the best bang for your buck...

This site has multiple different benchmarking charts for all sorts of different hardware, a very good site to bookmark as a reference when trying to make a purchasing decision.
 
Actually, I want a really nice vidcard but i dont want something too powerful, to where I will never use it to its full capacity. And to answer your questions about will i play other games...i think it's a good possibility. I will definitely end up playing online games at some point, but I know those don't need much. As far as a budget, there is no budget. I want the best computer for me (without wasting anything). I want it to run reaaaally smoothe and whenever I play the sims i want it to be perfect, just like they show in their previews.

Ooh. I've got a question for ya! Can someone break down the specs of a video card? So that I can not only learn what I should be looking for, but also make the right decision from all your suggestions.
Ex. The vidcards talk about bits and stuff
I've been suggested the following card a lot, so I've been looking at it, but to be honest I dont know why it would be a good choice.
GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card<<what does all that mean?

I'll have a go too:
GeForce 9800 GT (just the name? i donno if 9800 has any significance) 512 MB (memory but why does a vidcard need that?) 256-bit (i have no idea..maybe it can handle 256 MHz or MB at a time kinda like 64-bit Vista??) GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 (I have absolutely NO CLUE!! lol) and HDCP Ready (maybe HiDef-compatible? ...it's capable of running hi-def stuff?)

i paid £130 for one of my cards, you could always go second hand off ebay and save a few $'s...

i got 2 cos im greedy, i only play call of duty 4,5 and united offensive.

i paid a fortune for my rig and all i do is play 3 games and surf the net lol
 
Haha its just like livin large! People buy an enormous house when it's only a family of 4 just because they can. And you know what? THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! haha so enjoy your over-done computer. It's probably a dream come true. lol
