My connection disappears after playing online

About 1/2 of the time my connection vanishes after playing Call of Duty 2 online. Browser won't load, IM program can't connect etc. The weird thing is, it only does it about half of the time. Only a computer restart will fix it. Any ideas?

Specs

3.0mbps DSL connection (no router)
Latest drivers on everything
amd athlon 3500+
1024mb ram

Did you try an ipconfig /renew in cmd?

Do you have a Dell laptop? Mine had that exact same problem and I just got a patch for it at their website. Seemed to fix it up just fine.
