ok, i have a md sempron 3000+ 1.8 ghz, now i went to do a system scan to see if I could play half life 2 without lag, and it said this:
CPU
Recommended: Pentium 4 or Athlon XP
You Have: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3000+ PASS
CPU Speed
Recommended: 1.5 GHz
You Have: 1.81 GHz Performance Rated at 3.00 GHz PASS

now this is what im talking about right here ^
so does that mean.....that my systems processor is actually the same as a 3.0 or what?!? im confused:(

AMD Speeds in Ghz do not equal Intel speeds in Ghz. Your Sempron is called a 3000+ because it is equivilent to a 3Ghz processor from Intel. In a nutshell, there's more to a processor's performance than just speed in Ghz.

yep... basically 1mhz is one million cycles... and semprons perform more work per cycle than intel's "celeron" series. so basically it more than meets requirements for the game.
of course, an athlon 64 is better for gaming than a sempron 64 because it has more cache... and for continuous processes (like gaming) it performs much better. not only that, but the memory bandwidth is higher for athlon 64 because of cache and a higher HT rating (2ghz vs. 1.6ghz) note that all 754 athlon 64's are rated 1.6ghz HT as well.
