My Dell Dimension

I am using a Dell Dimension 3000, and I am wondering what type of upgrades I should make until I am able to build my new PC. I already upgraded it to 512 MB RAM(was originally 256), but I am thinking about buying a stick of 512 MB RAM to go along with one of the 256 MB. I am not sure if it is worth it as it may not make much of a difference? I also have a new graphics card on its way, just some really cheap one that is directx7 capable. I was just wondering if I should keep upgrading this at all, or is it a waste of time? Either way, I will be building a new PC sooner or later. I would jut be doing this temporarily. I also have another PC, which is a DELL Dimension L566cx which is pretty old, and all I have done to that since I got it(off of ebay) is install Windows XP, and I may be changing it to Ubuntu.

Well it depends what you would be using the demension 3000 for. If your just using it for strategy games then the ram should be usefull, my brother uses his to play games like world of warcraft and it works perfect with 1gig of ram and the built in 64 mb graphics card. But if your just using it for office purposes then all you would probably need is a little more ram, like about 256mbs more. But if your planning to play fps games then you wouldnt be able to play many, because most require an agp or pcie slot for the graphics card, and you would need a much better graphics card for the newer games.

Well, I just would like to play CS:S SOMETIMES....It said I need a card that is Directx 7 capable, so I got one. I mean, I have been using this computer a while now, I just now started to play CS:S. I'll have to test this new card out, and once I get enough money I will buy 512 MB of RAM, I know it's only $40 :(, but all I have right now in my paypal is $17 :( lol

Yeah, well I don't think the default was DX7 capable ( Intel Extreme 2 Integrated Graphics with 64MB Shared Memory I believe), but I bought a

Nvidia GeForce 256 ELSA Synergy Force 32MB AGP Video

I got it pretty cheap on ebay, and it says it is DX7 capable, so is it worth installing, or is the intel better? I mean, I'm not sure what the 32 MB/64 MB means, so I am not sure. I mean, I already bought the nvidia, it should be on its way soon, just should I install it? Also, once I do CS:S should work without it telling me I do not meet requirements correct? Thanks for the help.
