My Documents-Access Denied

I had a hal.ddl error message and couldn't figure out the problem, so my dad reinstalled XP and now I can't get into my documents as I get access denied. When I click on properties for the file, it says 0 Folders, 0 Files, 0 bytes. There is not a security tab listed. I really need to get to my pictures and documents. I know I should have backed these up on my external...but when you aren't expected the worst to happen, it does.... please advise. Thank you.

Take ownership of the folder. All that message means is that you don't have access permissions with your new account.

In an Admin account, you can go to the security tab, click on the Advanced button, then Ownership. Take ownership with an admin account listed there and apply it to all subfolders and files before you click apply.

If it's home edition you have to do it in Safe Mode... unless you want to apply a little fix I have that will allow you to have a security tab in normal mode.. You'll have to use it at your own risk though.
