My DVD keeps freezing

I'm rather clueless when it comes to computer stuff, so will need some help.
I just bought my favorite movie (note: original, not pirated) and it keeps getting stuck at the same place no matter what player i use. It's not the first time- same thing'd happened to another DVD, so i'm 80% sure the prob lies with my comp.
What IS the problem?? I'm getting really depressed.
My comp is a Compaq FP7317 by the way.
Does it have anything to do with the codecs on my comp? or the fact that the DVD is in 'dual-layer format'?

if it keep getting stuck at the same place no matter what player you use then its likely that your dvd is scratched (unreadable) wipe your dvd with clean soft cloth and try again.
 
if it happened before? how was you able to get it to work?

you can try a standalone dvd player like suggested.. if your dvd player for the compaq is not acting up. has it just been that one and the one you said that happened before only? or several more other dvd's also? if just those two, it may be the dvd disc. if its newly bought, take it back for an exchange.

if a standalone dvd works, then its probably your dvd driver, maybe weak lenses, etc.. or try a friends dvd. just some suggestions.
