This is my first build-it-myself computer, and i hope to order it in 2-3 weeks. Im still new to this, so i had my friend, whos greatly more experinced then me at this, write me up a list of parts to buy. But before i buy anything, i wanted to subject my list to popular opinion before i do anything major.

So, anyone who cares to read this and respond, im looking for comments on the overall build, the compatabilty of all the parts, comments on each part itself, and anything else you feel is worth sharing. Thanks in advance.

Since ive heard its important, heres what i want from my build. I want to be able to upgrade part by part later on. That means a good mobo(with SLI) that can stand upgrades to quad core, much better gpus, adding a second gpu on, ram upgrades, ect. Im planning on having this build lasting more or less 1-2.5 years, ill upgrade gpu(s), ram, and the cpu to quad core when that all becomes better/cheaper, all going with moore's law.

To begin on the list, i have two parts of it already. A 500w power supply(i dont know much else about it, i bought it about 4 months ago, and just moved so the box is in another box thats also probally in another box.) and a XFX Geforce 7900 GS Extreme(link below).

Build list(besides the power supply.)

Note, my price range was around 1000$. This cost about $940.92 with shipping.(This doesnt include rebates which i dont go for, but does include a bundle of the Case and CPU fan. Not counting the GPU and power supply, which i already have.)

From what i can tell its all fine, but i want to get your views before i do anything. Again, thanks in advance.

4 gigs of memory is a waste...

Other than that, looks like the uninspired generic quasi-gaming builds going around..

Good Job!

:-)

Are you sure a 7900GS = a 7800GT How bout a 512mb 7900GS or a 512mb 7950GT.

Either way a 256mb 7900GS is not worth it a X1950Pro be better even if it's 256mb

And as ETSA said 4gb is crap Since your not getting quad but 2gb yes. So instead of that 4gb make it 2gb and get a better GPU like a 512mb 7950GT or an 512mb 7900GS Even for a 7900GS Get a 512mb 8500GT

Ok what games do you play? Tomb Raider? If tomb raider do you play Tomb Raider legend on pc?
If so like me who I LOVE LOVE tomb raider requires a 512mb 3D accelerated card 7800GTX/X1800 And since you chose a 256mb 7900GS I'm guessing maybe 10-15fps per second.

Oh and those who think Vram is not important why didn't Nvidia just realise a 32mb 8800GTX
