My First Build

Ok so here is what i have:

1 Nforce 790i SLI FTW - mb EVGA
1 Geforce 9800 GTX+ EVGA Graphics Card
1 500 GB WD Black Caviar HD
6 GIGs of DDR3 1333 Kingston memory
1 Corsair 850w Power supply
1 2.33 ghz CPU intel quad core...

i feel like i screwed up here on this build for basically one reason... i went all out on everything except my cpu...

Basically i am new to this field... and i don't know huge differences between the Quad cores and the Core i7s

if i would have spent 100$ more... i could have got a x58 gigabyte mb... w/ a core i7 cpu... i feel like an idiot for spending 950 and for only 100 more bucks i could have all the newest stuff...

i bought the cpu and mb from micro center havent used any of this stuff yet i am still waiting for half of my stuff to come in the mail from newegg

any thoughts? thx much appreciated

so yeah basically i got top of the line everything except for the CPU... would it be smarter for me to just wait til a 3.0ghz 775 socket comes down in price or try to go for that 1366 socket... core i7 even though it runs hotter

i mean whats the huge diff between a 2.66 quad and a 2.66 core i7

if it's too late to return what you got, then just oc that quad and go with it. the i7 is a better chop, but that quad will do just fine.

i7 are only between 5-10% quicker on some things and i bet you its the really expensive ones which are close to 10% quicker. I have a q9550 and my computer mad friend has a 920. We like 2 swap n test all r stuff just 2 c wat differences there r and we concluded in the end my cpu was the best, plus cheaper. If i were buying now (which im not) i would buy an i7 as it is the future, its just about buying at the right time. Unless u r desperate or need a new computer and u want to spend more money to b 1 of the testers, who iron out any problems (not saying there r i dunno) 4 us who buy l8r, then go ahead. Anyone with a good 775 computer, which is capable of doing everything they need it to do, should just hang on as long as possible b4 buying an i7. They will fix any bugs and improve the chips, which should make them better overclockers and most importantly they will b cheaper. 4 me (as 4 many people) its like an addiction, i like updating and having the lastest stuff (i try not 2 unless really need), but while my friend has the overall better pc (bit better, but more expensive), i am and have been saving up and in a year or so i will buy a new pc and it will b cheaper and better than his. Its a race, one year i have the better pc and the next year he has lol.

I guess you know something that Intel does not.

Maybe you uber clocked your Dual Channel DDR2 RAM
and have twice as much as your buddy. lol

Btw, your chip is not that much cheaper. Same price range.

lol test software is much different to real life. Its like sli is much better than 1 card in 3dmark and then in most games sli is worse, its propaganda.

So how are you comparing the two pc's exactly?

I'd like know how your Dual Channel DDR2 board
beats his Triple Channel DDR3 hardware.

How about we both run SuperPi and see who gets the faster score?
We have about the same overclock....?

We are sick of looking at test numbers, we wanted 2 test them by seeing e.g. how long different conversion software took and by measuring average fps in games. He has a ddr2/ddr3 combo mobo and he used my memory in the testing, same hdd, same graphics cards, same everything and my cpu won overall (not eveything). Then we put in his ddr3 and it hardly made a different, my cpu still best overall (ddr3 CL r till high). 920 is clocked slower, has less mem and slower L3 mem.

Link me to his X58 motherboard that runs DDR2 memory please.

Well, you said your CPU was better than his 920 so it must be
better than mine too right?

Put your money where your mouth is.

Post here and lets see real quick. It takes a couple minutes total to
download and run it.

The program seems rely strictly on cpu clock speed.
We have the same overclock so it should be fair right?

If there's any other programs you want to try let me know, I'll be
happy to go head to head with you, and will gladly concede if you're right.
