My laptop has slowed down completely

Hi guys,

Last month my laptop had begun to slow down. I have checked for mal-ware, viruses etc, and found nothing. I have tried restoring it back to a sooner date, updating the BIOS, and still nothing. So I formatted it and everything became slow, installing and running software, using the browser and loading Windows 7. I even tried getting a new hdd and installing it on there and it's still the same.

When I load Windows Task Manager at the beginning it says the CPU is at 100%, yet there is know software using that amount of CPU. I wait a few minutes and it goes down to 30%, but everything is still slow.

Please can someone tell me how I can fix it?

Laptop: Dell Latitude E5500
RAM: 4gb

Thanks

Use task manager to find out what is using up the cpu usage. Make sure you click the box that says show processes from all users. Click on the cpu column so it sorts it by highest usage at top. If the system idle process is a high thats normal.

I have tried that at the being when windows has loaded and it's coming up with nothing that would show the CPU using 100%. If I wait a few minutes, the CPU slows down and it will show me what's using it.

Before this I had bought some software to sort out the registry etc and the laptop is still slow.

Registry cleaner programs are garbage, get rid of it. Is it still slow right after a fresh install before you installed any programs at all? What processor do you have?

Then install your correct chipset drivers, update windows, and if it still is slow, either use readyboost, or upgrade to an SSD and increase the amount of RAM. Thats about all you can do.

I have finally figured out what the problem was....It was the charger. After buying a new one and charging up the laptop; it's back to normal.
