Before I start I'm new to the forums hello everyone! :D

I'm in the process of learning every thing about computers. 7 years of experience.

I buy a laptop (toshiba satellite l655-s5071) with every intention of taking out the CPU out and putting it back in. When I do to my surprise I have a problem.I believe I installed every thing the way i found it.
The CPU fan starts then stops over and over. Out of the 6 system lights 2 of the lights come on 1 blinks and the others don't come on at all. Theres no picture from the screen or a beep from the speaks. So I look online and find out I might need to reapply thermal grease so I do so. Again same problem. When I look online for more help I find a lot more helpful ideas still none of them work. This is a very new laptop I think it was made 2010 so I'm pretty sure its not the bios battery.I'm at a loss.

So I join this forum in hopes to get some more personal help.Any ideas would be very grateful thank you.

a laptop is not an ideal computer to start learning about the components.

did you take picture of your progress?
every time i dismantle a laptop, i take pictures every so often to remind me of how things looked before i took it apart.

i also keep a log book describing what part i took out and in what order.

i would first make sure the battery is seated properly and it's plugged in.
if it still doesn't boot up, i would re-seat the memory modules.

good luck.

well i got 2 desktops but i never worked on the CPU in them i figured if i learn how to replace a CPU in a laptop desktops will be a no brainer that was my thought process anyways.

no i didn't log my process in any way ill keep that in mind next time good idea.

few probably dumb questions. could the fan thing happen if i apply thermal grease the wrong way could that cause the problem? if the lights come on the motherboard does that mean the motherboard still works? i broke off a piece of the plastic holding the battery in trying to reset it (in idea from another forum) what the best way to keep it held in electric type?if the CPU fan starts then stops that means the fan isn't messed up right? i broke a plastic screw hole piece off. I'm very sure i put the power plug in the right place but i didn't could that cause the problem?

sorry just trying to cover my bases. :P if did make a log book i'm sure some of that stuff would have been in it. i cant think of any thing else that went wrong.

thanks for the ideas zombine
