alright i currently have a gateway lcd monitor black to black 17-18in corner to corner 19in

its agp i use a dvi connector so ive had it for a year or so and iam building a new computer soon and i dont wana spend more money on another monitor so should i use this one?

the monitor cant be AGP......the dvi plug will appear on a new gfx card generally (unless its outdated which wont be the case)

so yes you should be fine using your current monitor. The only thing to look for will be its response time as to whether it will cope ok with newer games.

its rather old... iam usin an adapter to plug into my videocard

can i test my monitor in anyway?

also gateway guaranteed that the whole computer will be the only computer ill ever need thus making it upgradeable so i would imagine the monitor would be the same
