they don't always update the bios to support a new cpu, once they sell you the machine and have their money, they only really fix things that are necessary, and few people will ever even try to install things like a new cpu, alot don't even know you can upgrade things, just because the socket is right doesn't mean the mobo supports all cpu's for that socket, that's the way it is. and also some bios can only support up to a certain speed, on older comps if you wanted to upgrade the cpu you have to know what it supports cuz they won't take some of the newer ones that are a higher fsb or clock speed or whatever, they just can't handle the speed, and a new bios update doesn't always fix that, and sometimes can't.
