My McAfee has suddenly changed... why?

Hello

I've switched my computer on tonight and it has not allowed me to even open my default webpage (Google).

It says that Google is not on the list of allowed sites and suggested that in order to view the site I will have to add it to the list of allowed sites. But I will probably have to do this for EVERY site I visit from now on :(

Last night, I got a pop up message about updating the security on the computer so I went with that and as it started to look complicated and confusing I decided to cancel it. The computer was fine for the rest of the evening. The problem arose tonight which is the first time the computer has been switched on since yesterday. Is this the effect of the updates kicking in from rebooting the computer?

How can I resolve this problem without having to make various telephone calls, being put on hold etc or having a computer technician come to have a look at it?

I had to disable McAfee Privacy Service just to get on the internet tonight so that isn't ideal. I'd like things to go back to how they were before, with the Privacy Service switched on and with unrestricted internet access.

Any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated.

Many thanks

David

In other words, you don't rate McAfee... :)

Is there anything that sounds familiar to you about the problem and how it can be sorted?

What would you recommend instead of McAfee?

Thanks

I would reccomend Kaspersky, AVG, or Avast! antivirus, mostly free on the internet. Just uninstall every aspect of McAffee and install one of the aforementioned programs.

Thanks

Is there anything you can suggest that can be done within McAfee? Changing the settings, doing something to reverse the effect of the update (if that is what caused it...)

I'm always very wary of doing something to my computer in case I make a mistake or something happens that wasn't expected. I'm worried about doing more damage :(

I don't think the update did anything. I actually think it is the firewall in the program. Just make sure the security level in the firewall isn't set to block all or something like that and put it to allow all or to custom which will allow you to decide which programs to access the internet. Also as the other people said get rid of Mcafee. I would get rid of it when your subscription expires just because you paid for it.

Hope this helps

That's the thing; I haven't changed the settings at all. There's nothing in the block list even though its blocking everything. The only way round this at the moment is to disable the privacy service :(

The only time I've ever tried to update it was last night and now this :(

Unless I disable the privacy service I can't access the internet at all :(

Hello

Are the Kaspersky, AVG, or Avast anti virus packages sufficient? I mean, do they provide an adequate level of protection and are they up to date.

Yes they are very sufficient and have a strong level of protection. Most of them update everyday but if I am not mistaken, Kaspersky updates every hour. But all in all, all three are amazing!
