My monitor is making me dizzy!!!

My monitor is acting very weird. The edge of the displayed picture is doing the "wave" A slight depression will slowly move up and down the screen. This action is very slow at 1280x1024 (what I had it set on) but it gets faster (and more dizzying) as the resolution goes up or down. 60hz is the only frequency that I can have it on for that res, otherwise it becomes very shaky. (this is not new)

Whoops, I forgot to say that I have a Viewsonic Ultrabrite A91f+ (19" CRT flatscreen). It isn't even 2 years old. :(

Well, 60Hz isn't good for your eyes. The best setting would be 75Hz and up. Do you have anything magnetic near your computer, e.g. I have an external powersource for one of my fans (115V, baby:P) and if I have the powersource too close (50cm) to my monitor the screen starts shaking and waves appear.

Well I can't help that. At this res I have 4 choices, 60hz, 70hz, 72hz, and 75hz. Every single one of those except 60hz looks like the monitor has an internal earthquake.

I have a laptop, a sub, speakers, a router, a battery screwdriver in its charger, a phone (not cellular), a camera and printer dock, a big printer, and a radio/cd/tape player. But these are pretty much the same things that have always been here (except the phone)

and of course my computer

I feel your pain, the school only uses 60Hz on their monitors with 600x800. I eventualy got used to it. But have you tried lowering the resolution and then raising the frequency? Or raising the resolution and the frequency?

Nonono, the frequency isn't the problem. I have had it on 60hz ever since I have used it, and never had this problem. I don't think it has anything to do with the frequency.

But in answer to your question, yes I have. The frequency can go higher with a lower resolution. But 1280x1024 is the only one that I can really use, 1024x768 is too big, and 1600x1200 is too small.

I think I will save up for a nice LCD monitor

But in the (probably long) meantime, does anybody know what is wrong with this stupid CRT?

ya could try thumpin it with a hammer a few times, see if that sorts it, worked with my 11.5 year old one:D

Ummm....I tried that with an axe on another one, interestingly enough, it didn't work after:D

Ugh, How do you live on 60Hz with that high of a res. ?? I can do it with 600x800 but jeez. :P

But I think your monitor is just getting old.

I was able to do it just fine until this current problem.

I cannot think of any other way to describe it other then that one segment of the screen bends over to the left, and this segment moves up and down very slowly.

alright, can't think of much else, if it was me Id probably sell it and get maself a nice tft:) , does the thing get hot at all (in a hot room), could be a reason for the problems.

You could also try adjusting the knobs at the bottem, to move the screen display around, might fix it:)

Actually in the winter my room is usually about 62-65* F, but the monitor is relatively warm on the top (maybe about 80*F on the top plastic casing)

whoops, didn't see this before  No, that does abso****inglutely nothing

I know it's been mentioned already, but before you scrap it, try using it away from any magnetic sources, particularly mobile phones and speakers - they're a very common cause of this sort of problem.

speakers are? oh....i didn't know that, I will try doing that

and how far away is far enough?

lol, until the monitor stops making those waves, if u have small computer speakers 20 cm will be fine
logitech x-530s

the sub and the nearest speaker are now about 30 cm away, but it didn't stop

I had always had 1 speaker right next to the monitor, why is this happening now?

Why do I always get stuck with the problems that no one really knows how to solve:(

i forgot to mention that i have a UPS right behind it, would that matter?

and I had also heard things about wireless mice affecting monitors, are these things true?
